Collective agreements have been approved

The vote on the new collective agreements was concluded on 16. April 2020 and the agreements were approved.  

We have summarized the main changes further below.

Please observe that the agreements are not identical in all aspects, and there are variations in some of the new agreements as well. Contact us if you have specific questions or need clarification.

Publication of the collective agreements

Danish language versions of the collective agreements have been published in digital versions here (some agreements will be published with a few days delay): https://www.danskbyggeri.dk/regler-og-vejledning/medarbejderforhold/overenskomster-og-priskuranter/

The following collective agreements will be translated. The translated agreements will be available online in the beginning of June 2020 and in printed versions 4-6 weeks after online publication:

  • Collective Agreement for the Construction and Civil Engineering Sectors with 3F (the red book) will be translated to English, German, Polish and Italian
  • Collective Agreement for Civil Engineering Workers with BJMF, which covers the Copenhagen area (the grey book), will be translated to English
  • The Building Agreement with 3F (the green book) will be translated to English, German and Polish
  • The Agreement on Bricklayer and Bricklayers’ Labourer Work with 3F (the yellow book) will be translated to English, German and Polish
  • Collective Agreement for Sheet Metal and Pipe Work with the Danish Metalworkers' Union and the Danish Union of Plumbers and Pipe Fitters (the brown book) will be translated to English
  • NEW: The flooring agreement with 3F will be translated to English


Please observe that members of the Danish Construction Association must also comply with the below agreements which are only available in Danish language:

  • The Electricians agreement (in Danish: El-overenskomsten med Dansk El-forbund)
  • The Painters Agreement (in Danish: Maleroverenskomsten med Malerforbundet i Danmark)
  • The Agreement on Bricklayers’ Labourer Work in the Copenhagen area (in Danish: Murerarbejdsmandsoverenskomsten med Bygge-, Jord- og Miljøarbejdernes Fagforening i København (BJMF))
  • The Industry, Wood and Furniture Agreement (in Danish: Industri- Træ- og Møbeloverenskomsten med 3F/Industrigruppen (ITM))
  • The Industry Agreement with 3F (in Danish: Industrioverenskomsten med 3F)
  • The Industry, Wood and Furniture Agreement (in Danish: Industri-, Træ- og Møbeloverenskomsten med 3F)

New collective agreements 2020 – summary of main changes

The new agreements will be valid for 3 years (2020-2023). Please be aware that this is a partial summary. Contact us if you have questions:

Minimum hourly wage rates
The minimum hourly wage rates will be increased with 2,50 DKK on each of the following dates:

  • 1. May 2020
  • 1. January 2021
  • 1. March 2022


The minimum hourly wage rates as of 1. May 2020 on selected collective agreement:

  • Collective Agreement for the Construction and Civil Engineering (the red book): 128,65 DKK
  • Collective Agreement for Civil Engineering Workers, which covers the Copenhagen area (the grey book): 128,65 DKK
  • The Building Agreement (the green book): 128,40 DKK
  • Collective Agreement for Sheet Metal and Pipe Work (the brown book): 122,10 DKK
  • The Agreement on Bricklayer and Bricklayers’ Labourer Work with 3F (the yellow book): 128,40 DKK1

Overtime work, Staggered working hours, Shift work
The additional payments for amongst other things overtime work, staggered working hours and shift work will be increased with 1,6% as of 1. May 2020. Specific rate increases for different collective agreements will be available in “Lønoversigten” (available in Danish language only) and in the collective agreements when they have been approved and published.

Please observe that in some areas the overtime rate will increase with the increase of the minimum hourly wage rates. This is for instance the case for the Civil Engineering Agreement. In other areas, the overtime rate will follow the development in each employees hourly wage. This is for instance the case for the Building Agreement.

Public Holidays and Floating Holidays contribution (SH)
The contribution to Public Holidays and the 5 Floating Holidays will be increased from the current 9,9%. The rate will be increased with 1,0 percentage point per year over the next 3 years.

As of the below dates, the new rates will be:

  • 1. May 2020: 10,9%
  • 1. January 2021: 11,9%
  • 1. March 2022: 12,9%


The new payment rates per day (both Public Holiday and Floating Holidays) will be increased from the current 1.100 DKK. As of 1. May the rates will be:

  • For adults: 1.300,00 DKK
  • For adolescent employees: 700,00 DKK


Furthermore, the parties have agreed that employees and employers can mutually agree to pay out the part of the Public Holidays/Floating Holidays contribution, which exceeds 5,9%, on a going basis with each wage payment.

Sick pay maximum rates
The maximum rates for sick pay, child’s first sick day, child’s hospital stay, pregnancy/maternity leave will be increased with 2,50 DKK on each of the following dates:

  • 1. May 2020
  • 1. January 2021
  • 1. March 2022


The maximum hourly rates for sick pay will be at the following levels as of 1. May 2020 on selected collective agreements:

  • Collective Agreement for the Construction and Civil Engineering (the red book): 149,50 DKK
  • Collective Agreement for Civil Engineering Workers, which covers the Copenhagen area (the grey book): 149,50 DKK
  • The Building Agreement (the green book): 147,50 DKK
  • Collective Agreement for Sheet Metal and Pipe Work (the brown book): 149,50 DKK
  • The Agreement on Bricklayer and Bricklayers’ Labourer Work with 3F (the yellow book): 149,50 DKK


Terminating employment during sickness
A new provision has been agreed. Employees that cannot work due to sickness cannot have their employment contract terminated for the first 8 weeks of the period where the employee is unable to work due to sickness.

Extended period for sick pay during sickness
Specific for the Collective Agreement for Sheet Metal and Pipe Work (the brown book): The period during which the employer must pay sick pay for the employee during sickness has been extended from 4 to 7 weeks.

Please observe that other changes to the sick pay entitlement periods have been agreed on other smaller collective agreements, which we do not have available in translated versions. Feel free to contact us for further information if you follow a non-translated collective agreement.

Specific to the painters agreement

The painters agreement deviates from the above mentioned agreements because it was not possible for the parties to reach an agreement. The contents of the Painters agreement is therefore the result of the Consiliation Board’s proposal.

Rate adjustments
Rate adjustments will take place on:

  • 1. March 2020
  • 1. March 2021
  • 1. March 2022


It will therefore be necessary to regulate wages back to 1. March.

Minimum hourly wage rates
The minimum hourly wage rates will be increased with 2,50 DKK every year from 2020 to 2022:

  • 1. March 2020: 130,25
  • 1. March 2021: 132,75
  • 1. March 2022: 135,25


Public Holidays and Floating Holidays contribution (SH)
The contribution to Public Holidays and the 5 Floating Holidays will be increased from the current 9,75%. The rate will be increased with 1,0 percentage point per year over the next 3 years.

As of the below dates, the new rates will be:

  • 1. March 2020: 10,75%
  • 1. March 2021: 11,75%
  • 1. March 2022: 12,75%


Sick pay maximum rates
The maximum rates for sick pay, child’s first sick day, child’s hospital stay, pregnancy/maternity leave will be increased with 2,50 DKK on each of the following dates:

  • 1. March 2020: 138,75
  • 1. March 2021: 141,25
  • 1. March 2022: 143,75

Public holidays in 2020

For the sake of good order, we have listed the Public Holidays in 2020.

Please observe the increased Public Holiday rates as of 1. May 2020 (see the section; "Public Holidays and Floating Holidays contribution (SH) above).

Public holidays are days-off and the employee receives the Public Holiday payment (currently 1.100 DKK, and 1.300 DKK after 1. May). Any work on a public holiday – if at all possible according to the relevant agreement – must be paid for with the high overtime rate for all hours worked + the Public Holiday payment. Contact us if you have questions concerning the Public Holidays rules within your specific work area.
